Kodiak NWR stream discharge data
Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) hydrologists began an assessment of selected streams of the Kodiak NWR in October 2001. This hydrologic investigation focuses on 9 streams where water resources will be quantified by stream gaging over a six year period. Following completion of this investigation, the FWS anticipates filing applications with the State of Alaska for water rights (instream flow reservations). An earlier gaging station on the Uganik River was operated by the USGS from 1951 to 1978. Streamflow data supported a water rights application for the Uganik River . The river gage map shows the distribution of streamflow gage sites on the Refuge. Gage site location information can be reviewed by clicking on the highlighted river name in the table below.

Kodiak NWR Water Quality Data
The water quality study occured in conjunction with operation of stream gages during the 2003-2007 water years. Physical and chemical characteristics were assessed in Refuge waterbodies to establish baseline data sets. Emphasis was placed on ultra-clean sampling methods that are used in natural, low-ionic strength rivers and streams. Field measurements were recorded and samples were collected and analyzed several times each year. Water quality assessments were conducted on the Akalura, Ayakulik, Dog Salmon, and Karluk Rivers during the 2003-2007 water years. Uninterpreted data may be made available to the public before publication. Water quality data will be published after the conclusion of the hydrologic investigation.
