Fisheries Offices in Alaska
Various Locations Some Remote Description: Fisheries Interns for various sites, 10 - 12 week positions, starting in May or June and lasting until August. Interns will study monitor individual fish and populations, document fish movement, sample water quality, and inventory habitat. Skills needed: Remote camping and a sense of adventure! Innoko NWR McGrath and Remote 2 Volunteers are needed from June through August to conduct Maintenance Duties for Innoko Refuge. Duties will include building up keep, painting, small construction projects, plumbing projects, and minor vehicle maintenance. Volunteers may also assist with fisheries, fire monitoring and a teen environmental camp. Refuge will provide training equipment and lodging. Maintenance Volunteer Greg Birkenfeld 1-888-601-7970
Kanuti NWR Remote Experienced birder needed for 4-6 weeks, beginning mid-April, to conduct bird surveys and take care of remote cabin on Kanuti Refuge. Skills needed: Ability to hike in fairly challenging terrain; independent and comfortable with staying in remote areas; knowledge and experience in use of canoes, boats, two-way radios, first aid, and firearms is preferable. Travel provided from Fairbanks, food and lodging provided.

Remote Collect information from sport fishermen while camping along the wild rivers of Kodiak Refuge. Early June to mid July, time commitment is flexible. Skills preferred: strong communication skills, experience working with the public, basic knowledge of fishing, remote camping skills. Volunteers must be prepared for inclement weather, biting insects, and proper bear safety behavior. Camping equipment, food, and safety gear are provided. Great fishing available on your off time!

RV Hosts: Friendly and energetic volunteer couples needed to help at Visitor Center, campgrounds, and Refuge Headquarters for a six week period June 9-July 18 or July 16-August 27. Applicants should have experience in communicating with public and basic maintenance skills; current CPR and first aid certifications and a driver's license; and be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
