Easements
There are several types of easements within the Alaska refuges. Conservation
and non-development easements are held by the United States on native
corporation land, primarily within Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge.
The purpose of these easements is to maintain the natural character
of the land and to protect habitat. ANCSA Section 17(b) easements are
reserved within native corporation land on all refuges, and provide
a legal means of access to public land and water across native-owned land.
