Kenai NWR Conservation Plan - Introduction

Thanks for your interest in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge planning effort.

We are on a historic journey . . . one that will result in revising the refuge’s Comprehensive Conservation Plan, which was approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Alaska Regional Director on June 27, 1985.

The National Wildlife Refuge System Improvement Act of 1997 (P.L. 105-57) mandates that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service “manage all refuges in accordance with an approved Comprehensive Conservation Plan, which, when implemented, will achieve refuge purposes; help fulfill the Refuge System mission; maintain and, where appropriate, restore the ecological integrity of refuges and the Refuge System."

Following guidance found in the National Wildlife Refuge System Improvement Act, ANILCA, and the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), we’re revising the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Comprehensive Conservation Plan to provide direction for management of the refuge for the next 15 years.
