Kanuti National Wildlife Refuge is, at 1.637-million acres, about the size of the state of Delaware. It sits atop the Arctic Circle, with approximately one-third of the refuge above that meridian and two-thirds below. The refuge is a prime example of Alaska’s boreal ecosystem, which is dominated by black and white spruce with some white birch and poplars.

Comprehensive Conservation Plan
Revision of the 1987 conservation plan was initiated in 2003 and scoping meetings were held in villages on or near the refuge and in Fairbanks during 2004. The draft revised plan is now available. Meetings will be held in local villages and in Fairbanks during the review period.
