Wildland Fire

The Fire Management Center at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge works closely with local fire cooperators to make the Kenai Peninsula safe from the hazards of catastrophic wildland fire. Our main goal is to manage fire according to predetermined protection levels. In more remote areas of the refuge, wildland fire may be monitored closely and allowed to burn for the benefit of wildlife and to promote a more natural fuel loading. In areas adjacent to local communities, wildland fire will be suppressed aggressively to protect life and property.
