Fire Prevention

Use caution when burning with a burn barrel or piles of debris. Clear an area around the burn and have a shovel and water source nearby.

For campfires please use designated fire pits or create a rock ring around your fire. Never leave a campfire unattended. Make sure that it is dead out when you leave. Even some warm embers can get blown into grasses and start a forest fire.

Contact Alaska Division of Forestry for information on required burn permits at: 260-4200

Don't let this happen to your home. Take the steps to protect your homes from the threat of catastrophic wildfire.

The key to keeping your home safe from wildfire is to create defensible space around your house. For more information on how to protect your home and family check out the FireWise website: www.firewise.org
