Waterfowl
This flock of 5600 spectacled eiders (Somateria fischeri)
was one of 25 such flocks found during a winter aerial survey in the Bering Sea.
Note the brownish smudges of eider droppings on the ice, indicating that the eiders
periodically haul out to sit on the ice, and also indicating that the eiders have
spent a fair amount of time at this particular ice hole.
