Tundra Swan

Tundra Swan. USFWS. Click to Enlarge

On the flat coastal tundra of Western and Northern Alaska, the three-foot-high nest of this swan can often be seen from a couple of miles away. The high pitched yodel-like call helps distinguish this Tundra Swan from the Trumpeter Swan, that nests in boreal wetlands of Interior Alaska and further south along the Gulf of Alaska.
