Bufflehead
Buffleheads nest in small tree cavities near the edge of ponds or lakes. Within Alaska, breeding bufflehead are most common in the wooded interior parts of the state. This fast flyer is nearly a miniature copy of the Common Goldeneye. From a distance, the duck is black and white, but closer inspection of its head reveals subtle iridescent blues and purples.
