Shorebirds
Marbled Godwit
Alaska hosts a small (probably <3,000 birds), geographically and morphologically
distinct, breeding population of Marbled Godwits (Limosa fedoa beringiae, Gibson and Kessel 1989). Among North
American shorebirds, only populations of Snowy Plover (Charadrius alexandrinus),
Piping Plover (C. melodus), Eskimo Curlew (N. borealis, if extant),
and the Hudson Bay Marbled Godwit (L. f. fedoa) are smaller (Brown
et al. 2001). The very small population size and very limited distribution
(Alaska Peninsula) render this population vulnerable.
