Alaska Shorebird Conservation Plan, Version II (pdf - 10 mb), 94 pages

The Alaska Shorebird Conservation Plan is one of eleven regional plans associated with the U.S. Shorebird Conservation Plan.  This document is the second iteration for Alaska, and contains updated conservation objectives and priorities based on the latest information.  Important changes in this version include updated species conservation scores, revised population estimates, updated descriptions of conservation threats in Alaska, and a new framework for building a conservation strategy within a landscape context.  This document is formatted in two sections:  Part I presents an overview of the conservation plan for Alaskan shorebirds, descriptions of priority species, and threats to shorebirds throughout Alaska; Part II describes a conservation strategy specific for each Bird Conservation Region in Alaska.  There are four major components to the conservation strategy adopted in this plan:  (i) research, (ii) population monitoring, (iii) habitat management, and (iv) education and outreach.  The overall goal of this plan is to keep shorebirds and their habitats well distributed not only across the Alaska landscape, but also throughout regions used by these populations during other phases of their annual cycle.

U.S. Shorebird Conservation Plan

The United States Shorebird Conservation Plan is a partnership effort of state and federal agencies, non-governmental conservation organizations, academic institutions, and individuals from across the country committed to restoring and maintaining stable and self-sustaining populations of shorebirds in the U.S. and throughout the Western Hemisphere.

Program for Regional and International Shorebird Monitoring

The Boreal Committee within the Program for Regional and International Shorebird Monitoring prepared this discussion paper (1.5mb pdf) that assesses the status of shorebirds that breed in the boreal region of North America, and explores potential methods for monitoring their populations, particularly on the breeding grounds.
