We were absolutely blown away by the 2011 photo entries! View them all on our facebook and Flickr pages. We hope the 2011 entries inspire you to get out and photograph Alaska’s amazing fish…please enter your best shots in our 2012 Alaska Fish Photo Contest and help spread the word by emailing/printing/posting this flyer!

Fish Doing Fishy Things. Fish can be very elusive…and Alaska is a big state! We need your help capturing photos of fish migrating, spawning, feeding, fighting, hiding, and jumping in their natural, Alaskan habitats. Any species, any time of year…If they do it, we want to see it!
What a Girl Wants. Male fish go through a lot to impress the ladies. Case in point: “nuptial” tubercles. Doesn't sound romantic? You must not be a female lake chub or rainbow smelt. Others get a huge “kype” (er, a prominent hook jaw). Some especially flamboyant species, like the Dolly Varden char, turn brilliant colors. Watch for these amazing changes and send in your best close-ups!
Fish for the Future. Children are the future stewards and beneficiaries of Alaska’s incredibly rich fisheries resources. We’re looking for outdoor shots of youth (under 18) fishing, helping with fishing gear, holding or releasing fish, or otherwise interacting with Alaska’s fish/participating in related Alaskan traditions!
Unique Alaska. Alaska’s fish support varied and valuable subsistence, personal use, recreational, and commercial fisheries…we’d love to see you capture these unique fisheries and the settings in which they occur. If you catch and release, send in your best shots of fish that are alive and partially (or fully) submerged in their natural habitat!
(Optional)
When you send in your photos, share why fish are important to you, your family, and/or your community. Do you have a favorite fish-related memory that celebrates the importance of fish in your life? Are you really impressed with the life cycle or physical feats of a particular species? We’d like to create a page called “Voices for Alaska’s Fish and Wildlife”. Here, your essays, stories, poems, or any other forms of expression about Alaska’s fish or fisheries will be shared anonymously to help others understand their many values!
