Selawik River Sheefish Abundance (pdf)
Geographic Area: Selawik NWR
Length: 2004-2005
Purpose: Conduct a mark-recapture study to evaluate the population size of sheefish in the Selawik River. Concerns have been raised that this fishery may be affecting local whitefish stocks. Results will be compared to an estimate from 1995-96 to identify population trends.
Status and Trends of Arctic Cisco and Dolly Varden in Lagoons Adjacent to the Village of Kaktovik
Geographic Area: Arctic NWR
Length: Ongoing
Purpose: Determine relative abundance, length frequency, length_weight relationship, and condition of these two species, and compare this to baseline data collected between 1988 and 1991.
Tanana River Humpback Whitefish Project (pdf)
Geographic area: Tetlin NWR
Length: Ongoing
Geographic Area: Kanuti NWR
Purpose: Extension of an existing project to gain knowledge of spawning and rearing areas and migration patterns of humpback whitefish in the Tanana River drainage.
Alatna / Allakaket Humpback & Broad Whitefish Project (pdf)
Length: Beginning in 2004
Purpose: Employ radio telemetry to identify spawning, feeding, and migratory habitats used by these species in Kanuti NWR.
Middle Yukon River Tagging Project (pdf)
Geographic Area: Middle Yukon River
Length:
Purpose: To help determine the size of the fall chum salmon run in the Yukon River above the village of Tanana.
