Restoration Activities
The trustees have initiated "restoration planning" to identify restoration alternatives and, with public input, develop a Damage Assessment and Restoration Plan (DARP). Additional studies may be undertaken to determine the appropriate nature and scale of the restoration projects.
The DARP describes the resource injuries and service losses resulting from the spill and identifies restoration projects that address those loses. The responsible party is accountable for restoration of injured natural resources and services and may fund and/or implement (with trustee oversight) the DARP directly. If the responsible party declines to fund restoration activities, the trustees may pursue legal remedies and/or seek funds from the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund to pay for restoration.
